Job summary

Milk Education are partnering with a specialist SEMH school in Middlesbrough to recruit a resilient 1:1 Student Support Assistant for a pupil aged 5-19 with SEMH needs. You will provide consistent 1:1 support, help regulate emotions, and support learning in a calm, structured environment.

Experience with children or young people is valued; a DBS check is required or you must be willing to obtain one. You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team and contribute to the pupil's

1:1 Student Support Assistant (SEMH) - SEMH School (Ages 5-19) - Middlesbrough

Milk Education are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in Middlesbrough that supports children and young people aged 5-19 years. We are seeking a resilient and compassionate 1:1 Student Support Assistant (SEMH) to provide dedicated support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced 1:1 Support Assistant or someone with strong transferable skills who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who face barriers to learning.

As a 1:1 Student Support Assistant (SEMH), you will work closely with an individual pupil, providing consistent support, building trust, and helping them regulate emotions, engage in learning, and develop positive coping strategies.

Responsibilities of the 1:1 Student Support Assistant (SEMH):
  • Deliver consistent one-to-one support to a pupil with SEMH needs
  • Support emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour strategies

Requirements for the 1:1 SEMH Student Support Assistant Role:
  • Experience working with children or young people (school-based or transferable experience such as youth work, care, coaching or support work)
  • Understanding of SEMH needs and associated behaviours
  • Knowledge of additional needs such as ADHD, ASD or learning difficulties (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
