Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Chorley is seeking a Behaviour Management Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs from September 2026. This full-time role focuses on guiding students who require additional emotional support to succeed.

Ideal candidates include ex-forces or those with care or youth-work backgrounds. You will work with teachers to implement behaviour plans, promote positive relationships, and help learners engage and stay safe.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children, young people or vulnerable adults in behavioural, care, support or educational settings.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Resilient, patient and able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Able to build trusting relationships while maintaining boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a role model.
  • Help students regulate emotions and develop coping strategies.
  • Work with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage engagement, attendance and participation in learning.
  • Promote a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
