Job summary

Obsidian is seeking a Computational Seismology & Geophysics Expert to design graduate-level problems using open-source tools, run simulations, and interpret results to assess AI capabilities in real scientific workflows.

You will refine problem designs through testing with state-of-the-art AI models, aiming for challenging yet solvable workflows in seismic wave propagation, inversion, and tomography.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS/PhD preferred).
• Hands-on experience with listed libraries through research/publications or open-source work.
• Strong Python skills for problem setups, oracle functions, and validators.
• Ability to work independently and refine designs based on feedback.
• Comfortable in Linux/terminal environments with remote compute sandboxes.
• Available for at least 15–20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Design graduate-level computational problems requiring skilled use of scientific software.
• Test problems against state-of-the-art AI models and refine difficulty.
• Build problem setups, oracle functions, and solution validators; iterate based on results.
