Job Summary

The Security Operations Manager (SOM) will work as an integral member of the Central Security Team (CST), providing Governance & Assurance, Audit, Training & Awareness, and Operational support to the business. The key objective of the CST is to ensure that GKN Aerospace protects its People, Property, Assets, Information, and Reputation, ensuring compliance with contractual, legal, and regulatory obligations, meeting business requirements, and maintaining its ‘License to Operate.’ The SOM will play an important role in achieving this.

The SOM will demonstrate a strong background, knowledge, and experience in Security, with the ability to work strategically, providing guidance and direction to senior business leaders, as well as operational support at manufacturing sites.

The SOM will be a subject matter expert in security-related fields including Personnel Security, Physical Security, Technical Security Systems, Physical Information Security, Travel Security, Events Security, Crisis Management, and Response.

A key element of the role will be supporting the integration of the Security function across GKN Aerospace, assisting with governance framework implementation, providing a central Audit capability, delivering security training and awareness, and providing operational support and guidance to Business Line Security Leads and Site Security Managers.

Internal collaboration with key stakeholders including Business Line Chief Operating Officers, Business Line Security Leads, Site Security Managers, HR, Procurement, Export Control, and external liaison with contracting authorities, customer peers, and third-party providers will be essential for delivering change, embedding a security culture, and providing value to the business.

US and Mexico Focus

In addition to global responsibilities, the SOM will serve as the SME for security management activities in the US and Mexico, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and communication with regional Security Managers and Leads. The role involves advising on regional security challenges, supporting policy implementation, monitoring threats, and overseeing regional security audits for compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Accountable to the Head of Security for delivering Security Risk Management by:

  • Developing and implementing a governance framework including Security Policy, Standards, and Guidelines
  • Participating in Multi-Functional Audit programs to review practices, identify gaps, and support improvements
  • Developing and delivering Security Awareness training through campaigns
  • Providing operational support to Business Lines and manufacturing sites
  • Building relationships with Business Line COOs and Security Managers to understand requirements and support
  • Providing expertise in Physical Security controls, Technical Security systems, Personnel Security (including US Government Security Clearances), Physical Information Security, and Travel Security
  • Guiding Crisis Management frameworks and procedures, developing plans, delivering training, and supporting real-time crises
  • Conducting investigations as appropriate

Job Qualifications

  • US National; appointment subject to security clearance
  • Proactive team-player & self-starter with ability to manage multiple programs across geographies
  • Expertise in Security risk management and incident response
  • Knowledge of Threat, Vulnerability, and Risk Assessment (TVRA) methodologies
  • Experience in security plans, processes, and procedures development
  • Knowledge of physical and technical security controls
  • Understanding of Physical Information Security risks and controls
  • Experience managing international travel security
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years Security Risk Management experience
  • Experience in a corporate security environment
  • Security Management / Risk Management degree (BSc / MSc)
  • Background in military, police, or law enforcement
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Investigations experience
  • Knowledge of Data Protection practices
  • Budget management experience
