Job summary

UK National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) is seeking a Security Operations Manager within the Technology and Cyber Services team. The role leads end-to-end security operations to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from cyber threats across the organisation.

The role is flexible on location, with options at Risley, Workington or Preston, and requires proven leadership in SecOps, incident response, and collaboration with external partners to drive security improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in cyber security operations within regulated or critical infrastructure.
• Proven leadership of security operations teams and/or managed security services.
• Experience managing security incidents and crisis-level response under pressure.
• Strong understanding of incident response and digital forensics.
• Strong understanding of threat intelligence and threat hunting.
• Strong understanding of vulnerability management and security controls.
• Experience with regulators, auditors, and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to translate strategy into operational capability.
• Experience managing third-party suppliers and service providers.
• Degree or higher in a related subject.
• Evidence of related operations certifications and training.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance and 5 years UK residency.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop SecOps team to maximize performance and wellbeing.
• Align SecOps activities with risk appetite and CISO strategy.
• Represent SecOps at governance and security meetings.
• Develop governance, reporting and performance management frameworks.
• Own end-to-end security monitoring, detection, and response.
