Job summary

Ward Security Limited is seeking an experienced Security Officer to deliver outstanding service in a busy retail environment in Gillingham. You will be visible, approachable and proactive, protecting people, property and assets while ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for clients and visitors.

The role requires a valid SIA Door Supervisor & CCTV licence, a minimum of 5 years' checkable history, and a strong commitment to professionalism and reliability.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' checkable employment, education and/or unemployment history as per BS7858 vetting requirements.
• Valid Door Supervisor and CCTV SIA licence is required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with people at all levels.
• Strong observation skills to identify and record incidents and information.
• Professional and presentable at all times, representing Ward Security positively.
• Reliable and punctual with a strong attendance and shift commitment.
• Strong customer service skills and a genuine passion for helping others.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible security presence with regular foot patrols to deter crime and protect people and assets.
• Control access to the premises by checking identification to ensure entry only for authorised individuals.
• Monitor CCTV and alarm systems and respond promptly to alerts or concerns.
• Welcome and assist visitors, providing directions and escorting as needed.
• Identify and report concerns, including health and safety issues and security breaches.
• Carry out searches professionally and in line with procedures.
• Respond to security incidents and escalate to authorities when required.
• Complete locking/unlocking duties as per client requirements.
• Be the first point of contact for employees, visitors and contractors in a helpful manner.
• Maintain accurate logs of visitor movements, incidents, and patrols.
• Remain alert to suspicious activity and report concerns promptly.
• Support a safe working environment and maintain any required First Aid qualification.
• Work as part of a professional security team, upholding high standards of service and integrity.

We are recruiting a highly motivated and professional Security Officer to support operations at a busy retail shopping centre in Gillingham. Location: Gillingham, ME7 3PD
Pay Rate: £13.98 per hour
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off Days and Nights - including weekends and Bank Holidays
Requirement: Valid Door Supervisor and CCTV SIA Licence

About the Role:

As a Security Officer, you’ll play an important role in creating a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our client, their employees and visitors. You’ll be visible, approachable and proactive, helping to prevent incidents while responding confidently when they arise.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Maintain a visible security presence by carrying out regular foot patrols across designated areas, helping to deter crime and protect the client’s people, property and assets.
• Control access to the premises, checking identification and documentation to ensure only authorised individuals are granted entry.
• Monitor CCTV and alarm systems where provided, responding promptly and appropriately to any alerts or concerns.
• Welcome and assist visitors, providing directions and escorting visitors to their destinations when required.
• Identify and report concerns, including health and safety issues, suspicious activity, security breaches or criminal activity, ensuring accurate and timely reports are completed.
• Carry out searches professionally and respectfully, in line with company and client procedures.
• Respond confidently to security incidents, taking appropriate action and escalating incidents to the relevant authority when required.
• Complete locking and unlocking duties, including securing doors and designated areas in accordance with client requirements.
• Be a professional first point of contact for employees, visitors and contractors, providing information and assistance in a helpful and approachable manner.
• Maintain accurate records and logs, including visitor movements, incidents, patrols and other information required by the client.
• Remain alert and observant, recognising suspicious behaviour, individuals or activity and reporting concerns promptly.
• Support a safe working environment, including obtaining and maintaining any required First Aid qualification in line with company and health and safety requirements.
• Work as part of a professional security team, supporting colleagues and maintaining high standards of customer service, professionalism and integrity at all times.
