Job summary

ABM UK in Welwyn Garden City is seeking a Security Officer for The Howard Centre. You will be the public face of the security team, delivering vigilant, friendly service to visitors, tenants and staff.

The role requires a valid SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licences, First Aid at Work, and ACT Awareness. The shift pattern is 4 on 4 off, 42 hours per week, with a pay rate of £14.29 per hour.

Qualifications

• Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
• Valid SIA CCTV Licence.
• Valid First Aid at Work Certification.
• Valid ACT Awareness Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Interact with visitors/tenants delivering customer focused service at the shopping centre.
• Carry out regular patrols of the shopping centre as detailed in site instructions and stay proactive.
• Proactively assist visitors and colleagues to maintain a safe environment.
• Safeguard the site to remain safe and non-threatening for all visitors and tenants.
• Record and report incidents to control room and follow site procedures.
• Ensure timely response to security issues and incidents and keep the team informed.
• Liaise with Environmental Services to work as one team and cover shifts as needed.

Job description

LOCATION: The Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6HA

SHIFT PATTERN: 4on-4off, 42 hours per week

PAY RATE: £14.29 per hour

As the primary public face of the Security Team, the Security Officer plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at The Howard Centre. A proactive, professional, and "can-do" attitude is essential in this highly influential role. The post holder is responsible for delivering exemplary standards of security, vigilance, and customer service to all clients, tenants, and site visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Readily interact with all visitors/tenants within the shopping centre, delivering first class customer focused service
• Carry out regular patrols of the shopping centre as detailed in the site assignment Instructions, being always proactive
• Continuously look for opportunities to be of assistance to visitors at the shopping centre, proactively helping wherever opportunities arise
• Safeguard all the sites are safe and non-threatening environment for all visitors/tenants
• Ensuring all incidents are managed in accordance with site policies and procedure
• Liaising with site control room proactively reacting to incidents and ensuring colleagues are fully briefed and always supported
• Ensure any unsecure areas of the site are reported to Control Room immediately and action taken to resolve
• Record/log all non-conformances and emergencies with the appropriate control room operatives
• Deal efficiently and effectively with all emergencies ensuring the Centre team are kept fully always informed
• Intelligent understanding of human behaviour, monitoring and surveillance of suspect individuals, logging, and reporting incidents in line with site/company polices
• Maintain vigilance and highlight/manage unauthorised access by banned individuals
• Ensure radio procedures are always adhered to
• Ensure all events/incidents are recorded in the Security Officer notebook correctly and notebook policies are always adhered to
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
• Any other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager
• Ensure a timely response to all security issues and events
• Complete all training requirements as requested by line manager
• Be available to cover at least one additional shift per month if requested to cover absence/annual leave
• Liaise closely with the Environmental Services team delivering one service and highlight opportunities in working as one team
