Job description

The Microsoft Offensive Research & Security Engineering (MORSE) team is seeking a learn-it-all engineering leader to help secure Microsoft products and devices.

The MORSE team is responsible for securing Windows client and server operating systems, used by over a billion customers daily across businesses and Azure. The team conducts security design reviews, code reviews, and penetration testing on key features of Windows and Azure to ensure they meet the highest security standards.

In this role, you will manage a team of security researchers dedicated to helping Microsoft engineers deliver the most secure products. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with native code (C/C++), penetration testing (including code audits, writing fuzzers, and creative vulnerability discovery), a solid understanding of OS security fundamentals, strong computer science skills, and a passion for customer safety.

Qualifications

Required:

• Expertise in software engineering or security-related fields
• Experience managing security-focused engineering teams
• Proven ability to identify vulnerabilities in operating systems and/or native (C/C++) applications
• Ability to foster clarity, energy, and cohesion within teams

Preferred:

• Public security research record, especially in vulnerability discovery
• Experience exploiting bugs and bypassing security mitigations in operating systems
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows architecture

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in security reviews to identify and mitigate risks in Microsoft products, including design reviews, code reviews, and fuzzing
• Serve as the primary security contact for teams developing new Windows, Azure, and device technologies
• Identify security vulnerabilities across various OS features such as network protocols and security mechanisms
• Develop new protections and exploit mitigations based on current security understanding
• Engage with the external security community and researchers
• Collaborate with product teams to enhance security and communicate the value of security investments
