What you’ll be doing:

As a Security Engineer within the Security Operations team, you will help design, build, and continuously improve the technical capabilities that underpin how we detect, investigate, and respond to threats. You will work at the intersection of engineering and operations — helping turn security problems into scalable, automated solutions. Your core responsibilities will be to:

  • Alert Investigation & Triage: Investigate and triage security alerts from across our detection tooling, analysing logs, endpoint, identity, cloud, and network telemetry to determine impact and root cause. Work alongside the wider SOC to escape and resolve confirmed threats, document findings clearly, and feed what you learn back into detections, tuning, and automation.
  • Incident Response & DFIR: Support the investigation and response to confirmed security incidents, applying digital forensics and incident response skills across endpoint, cloud, and identity data. Help with evidence collection and preservation, timeline reconstruction, containment, and root cause analysis, and contribute to post-incident reviews that turn lessons learned into improved detections and tooling.
  • SIEM Engineering: Contribute to the engineering of our SIEM platform, including onboarding and normalising log sources, building and maintaining parsers, and supporting high-fidelity data pipelines that underpin detection and investigation. Help improve log coverage, data quality, and platform performance.
  • Detection Engineering: Help develop and maintain a library of high-quality detections using a Detection as Code methodology — working with version control, peer review, and automated testing pipelines. Map detections to the MITRE ATT&CK framework and contribute to improving coverage, precision, and resilience against evasion.
  • AI-Augmented Security Operations: Help explore and apply AI and machine learning to enhance security operations capabilities — including alert triage, incident response acceleration, threat intelligence analysis, threat hunting, and the enrichment and prioritisation of detection content. Contribute to evaluating emerging AI tooling and embedding it responsibly into team workflows.
  • Threat Intelligence Integration: Help consume and operationalise threat intelligence from internal and external sources, integrating indicators and adversary context into detection logic, response playbooks, and hunting activities. Work with threat intelligence feeds and platforms to support a timely and structured flow of actionable intelligence into security operations.
  • Threat Hunting: Take part in proactive, hypothesis-driven threat hunts across the environment to identify attacker activity that evades existing detections. Document and share findings in a structured way, using hunt outcomes to inform and improve detection engineering and tooling.

What you’ll bring to the role:

We are looking for a technically capable security professional with hands‑on experience in security operations. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Technical Security Experience: commercial experience in a security operations role, with a solid grounding in securing cloud-native environments and modern application stacks.
  • Incident Response & Digital Forensics: Hands‑on experience supporting security incident investigations, including evidence preservation, log and artifact analysis, timeline reconstruction, and root cause identification. Familiarity with forensic tooling and methodologies is highly sought after, as is experience contributing to post-incident reviews and translating findings into actionable improvements.
  • Detection & Response Skills: Practical experience developing and tuning SIEM detections, writing threat hunting queries, and participating in incident response activities.
  • SecOps Tooling: Hands‑on knowledge of administering and operating core security operations tools, including SIEM platforms, EDR/XDR solutions, vulnerability scanners, and ticketing or case management systems. Experience integrating these tools to support detection, investigation, and response workflows.
  • Threat Intelligence & Threat Hunting: Experience working with threat intelligence platforms and feeds, and integrating intelligence into security tooling, detection logic, and operational processes. A working knowledge of threat hunting methodologies and the ability to proactively identify indicators of compromise or attacker behaviour across the environment is highly desirable.
  • Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, Bash) to build security tooling, automate workflows, and integrate security capabilities.
  • Application Security Knowledge: Familiarity with secure development practices, OWASP top risks, and the ability to perform code reviews or work with developers to remediate security findings.
  • Security Frameworks & Standards: Working knowledge of relevant security frameworks (e.g. NIST CSF, CIS Benchmarks, MITRE ATT&CK) and compliance standards such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong ability to articulate technical security risks and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and to work cross‑functionally to deliver security outcomes.
