Job summary

Viasat in London is seeking a UK Security Controller, Manager, to lead physical and personnel security operations across UK sites, ensuring compliance with government, industry, and company standards. You will manage the security and vetting functions and work with contracted guard services to uphold risk-based protection of people, assets, and information.

Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for DV clearance, with the ability to handle classified material.
  • Knowledge of current UK Government and Defence security procedures, knowledge of the Security Policy Framework, GovS007 and ISO27001.
  • Understanding of security vetting and threats to an organisation's security and integrity.
  • Communicate well orally and in writing, to external and internal customers.
  • Can maintain records accurratly and in such a way that information can be easily accessed and analysed when appropriate.
  • Be available on site in our London office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead security facility compliance aligned with Government and Defence security policies, standards, and risks (GovS007, SPF, JSP 440).
  • Create, review, and maintain compliance documentation, RMADS.
  • Review and assure security programme security aspects, maintaining compliance, training, and record keeping.
  • Function as the primary UK point of contact for security matters with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Oversee the Security and Vetting Coordinator and personnel security lifecycle (screening, vetting coordination, clearances, and aftercare).
  • Ensure compliance with BS7858 screening standards and contractual government vetting requirements.
  • Educate security responsibilities through awareness campaigns and targeted training.
  • Own physical security controls: access, visitor management, CCTV, intrusion detection, duress.
  • Manage the contract guard force SLAs, performance, and oversight.
  • Ensure secure space operations and restricted areas are audited per policy and contracts.
  • Support investigations, insider-risk awareness, and loss-prevention activities.
  • Lead site-level incident response for security events and after-action reviews.
  • Support procurement in scope definitions for security systems/services.

What you'll do

The UK Security Controller, Manager, is responsible for leading physical and personnel security operations across UK sites, ensuring compliance with applicable UK government, industry, and company standards. This role manages the security and personnel security controller functions as well as outsourced/contracted guard force, driving a risk-based, intelligence-informed protective posture. The security controller partners closely with other business units to protect people, assets, information, and operations while enabling the business.

The day-to-day

Leadership & Governance

  • Lead security facility compliance aligned with Government and Defence Security policies, standards, and risks (GovS007 Functional Standard, Security Policy Framework, JSP 440).
  • Create, review, and maintain compliance documentation, as part of the risk management and accreditation document set (RMADS).
  • Review and assure security programme security aspects, maintaining compliance, training, and record keeping.
  • Function as the primary UK point of contact for security matters with internal stakeholders and external partners as appropriate.
  • Oversee the Security and Vetting Coordinator and personnel security lifecycle (screening, vetting coordination, clearances, and aftercare).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable personnel screening standards (e.g., BS7858 for screening, company/contractual requirements for national security vetting where applicable).
  • Educate security responsibilities through awareness campaigns and targeted training.

Physical Security Operations

  • Own physical security controls, i.e. access control, visitor management, CCTV, intrusion detection, duress.
  • Manage the contract guard force service level agreement, performance, and oversight.
  • Ensure secure space operations and restricted areas are operated and audited in line with policy and contractual/government requirements.
  • Support investigations, insider-risk awareness, and loss-prevention activities in partnership with other business units as required.
  • Lead site-level incident response for security events; ensure effective escalation, documentation, and after-action reviews.
  • Support procurement in scope definitions, competitive sourcing, and technical evaluation for security systems/services.
