Job summary

Quest Global in the UK is seeking a Principal Designer (CDM) to lead and coordinate health and safety during the pre-construction phase, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations. You will work with clients, designers and contractors to manage risks and deliver safe, compliant project outcomes.

This role requires a degree and professional membership, strong leadership, stakeholder management and clear communication in regulated environments such as defence or nuclear projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant discipline and/or professional membership with a recognised body such as CIOB, CITB, RICS, RIBA, CIAT, NEBOSH or equivalent.
• Proven track record delivering construction projects in a Principal Designer or CDM role.
• Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and associated guidance.
• Experience managing client relationships and communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in Defence, Nuclear, Marine, Dockyard or other highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Undertake the duties of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.
• Coordinate and manage health and safety aspects during the pre-construction phase of projects.
• Review designs and design information to identify and eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks.
• Facilitate collaboration between designers, contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe and compliant project delivery.
• Prepare, review and maintain Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and Health & Safety Files.
• Provide expert advice to clients and project teams on CDM compliance, construction risk management and best practice.
• Lead design risk reviews, workshops and hazard identification activities.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, designers and client representatives as required.
• Support the development of project governance, assurance processes and compliance reporting.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout project delivery and design development activities.
• Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation, standards and industry guidance.
