Security Architect

Reports to: Head of IT / ITSO

Location: Warrington / Cumbria, 2-3 days on-site per week, with occasional travel to the opposite site.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent with proven expertise
• MS Azure certifications and professional qualifications
• Cisco certifications
• Membership of a professional body in Information Security
• Experience with Cyber Security Standards

Experience and Skills:

• Experience securing hybrid cloud environments using MS Azure and Wintel platforms
• Security assurance for SIEM, SOC, and IDAM in regulated, secure-by-design environments
• Strong communication and organizational leadership skills
• Knowledge of security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, network controls, and segmentation
• Experience with Windows operating systems
• Understanding of network security architecture and development
• Wireless security including routers, switches, VLANs
• DNS security, routing, authentication, VPN, proxy services
• Familiarity with ISO 27001/27002, COBIT, ITIL frameworks
• Design and assurance of hybrid cloud security solutions, including MS Sentinel
• Third-party auditing and cloud risk assessment skills
• Knowledge of MS SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS, VDI/Thin client services
• Experience with BYOD, data classification, PKI, and secure third-party systems
• Integration of SaaS with Azure IaaS/PaaS within security architecture

Core Responsibilities and Duties

The Security Architect will design security solutions for hybrid cloud tools and systems, planning, implementing, and reviewing security assurance activities.

Key tasks include:

• Identifying vulnerabilities that threaten organizational security
• Supporting the planning and development of reliable security architectures for IT initiatives
• Conducting or overseeing penetration tests and security assessments
• Researching current security standards and authentication protocols
• Ensuring solutions support corporate security policies and ITIL4 procedures
• Verifying compliance with standards and third-party assurance
• Testing integrations to meet security requirements
• Ensuring solutions integrate with SIEM, SOC, and IDAM systems
• Developing response plans for security incidents and post-incident analysis
