Chief Constables' Message

We really welcome your interest in joining our Police Force. It is a privilege to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police who continuously work selflessly and tirelessly in order to keep people in our counties safe.

We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.

We wish you all the very best with your application.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen to join our Security and Information Assurance Team working for both Surrey Police and Sussex Police Forces. This is a specialist role in the world of security assurance and cyber security; working to protect the Forces’ technology, people, buildings and operational assets from threats. It’s a role where every day is different and you will get involved in a variety of interesting activities supporting policing operations at both a Force and national level.

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference to keeping Surrey and Sussex safe. The guiding principle and focus of the Digital Data and Technology Department is to provide better and secure services to front-line officers, staff and support functions to enable both forces to maintain their commitment to the public. The demands on policing are greater than ever before, against a backdrop of budget reductions and pressures that require us to examine our spending, whilst also safeguarding our policing operations, citizen data, and infrastructure against evolving cyber and physical threats.

If you are passionate about protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of sensitive data, we have just the opportunity for you! In this role, you can play your part in delivering a secure service to the public by ensuring the data we are entrusted to hold is protected.

Join our team of Security and Information Assurance Advisors, where you will influence the Forces’ approach to Information and protective Security. You will be managing a portfolio of business areas helping to deliver improvements to policing operations, as a single point of contact for security.

As an Advisor, you will provide a detailed understanding of the security impact of policing from both a business and operational perspective, with specific attention to system and data confidentiality, integrity and availability. You will also identify, address, and manage security and information risks throughout the lifetime of a service and through the Forces’ supply chains.

The role is vital to the promotion of a pro-security culture and will play an important part in relaying awareness to both Forces around security behaviours and good cyber hygiene practices. It is vital that the post holder maintains good Continual Professional Development (CPD) of internal and external developing trends and threats.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • Produce security and information risk assessments across all aspects of Force business, including the evaluation of the technical and privacy aspects of solution designs, architecture, configuration and implementation, as well as business operations and processes.
  • Audit and review the security controls relating to information handling, force assets, systems and business processes.
  • Oversee IT Health Checks, Penetration Tests and Physical Security Tests to ensure the identification of vulnerabilities.
  • Review and monitor the security of our delivery chain ensuring Force information is being processed and managed appropriately.
  • Investigate and evaluate security and information breaches.
  • Prepare and deliver security and information assurance guidance and learning materials.
Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • BSc in Computer Security or Cyber Security, a formal or professional qualification and or equivalent business experience
  • Proven technical knowledge and/or working experience of cyber security and information assurance concepts
  • Working knowledge of recognised security standards such as ISO27001
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An analytical mindset
