Job summary

Carbon is seeking an experienced Section Manager to lead a critical maintenance function within a large distribution operation in Avonmouth. You will own the maintenance plan, coach engineering teams, and drive safety, compliance, and efficient project delivery.

The role requires strong knowledge of health & safety regulations, CDM/BMS/CAFM, and a time-served electrical or HVAC qualification with NEBOSH certification. On-site work with a rotating shift pattern offers long-term career growth.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in distribution/logistics/industrial/retail maintenance.
• Proven experience leading multi-skilled maintenance teams.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (Legionella, LOLER, PUWER, Fire Safety) and statutory compliance.
• Experience managing audits, compliance programmes, and maintenance governance.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations, Building Management Systems (BMS), and CAFM platforms.
• Electrical qualification as a time-served Electrician or equivalent HVAC qualification.
• NEBOSH qualification or equivalent site safety certification.
• Strong analytical, reporting, procurement, and supplier management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the maintenance business plan across your area of responsibility.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, specialist contractors, and third-party service providers.
• Drive a culture of high performance, accountability, customer service, and safety.
• Ensure all compliance, safety, and assurance requirements are met to maintain operational continuity and minimise risk.
• Conduct compliance audits across maintenance activities and contractor works.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineering technicians and skilled tradespeople.
• Support budget management, revenue expenditure control, and capital planning activities.
• Oversee the delivery of all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), statutory maintenance activities, and remedial works.
• Ensure maintenance projects are delivered safely and efficiently.
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives and carbon reduction programmes across the site.

Location: Avonmouth

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, rotating shifts of 6:00am to 2:00pm and 2:00pm to 10:00pm (two-week rota)

On-Call Requirement: Participation in a regular call-out rota, typically every other week, with the ability to attend site within one hour when required.
