Job summary

Carrington West is seeking 2 freelance Section Engineers to support a major highways project in Oxfordshire. You'll work onsite with the Site Agent and project team, coordinating engineering activity, supervising sections of work and ensuring safe delivery to programme and quality standards.

These site-based roles require proven Section Engineer experience in civil engineering, a highways background, and a CSCS card. NEC contract experience, AutoCAD knowledge, and SMSTS/SSSTS are desirable.

• Proven experience as a Section Engineer within civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Taking responsibility for engineering delivery across allocated sections of the project
• Managing and coordinating Site Engineers and supporting site teams
• Overseeing setting out for highways and infrastructure works
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and programme requirements
• Coordinating subcontractors and monitoring progress on site
• Maintaining and overseeing site records, QA documentation, ITPs, and reports
• Ensuring health & safety and quality standards are maintained
• Liaising with the Site Agent, design teams, commercial teams, and subcontractors
• Reviewing technical information and resolving engineering issues on site
• Carrying out and checking surveys, setting out, and engineering works

A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking 2 freelance Section Engineers to support the delivery of a major highways project in Oxfordshire.

These are key site-based positions, working closely with the Site Agent and wider project team to coordinate engineering activities, oversee sections of work, and ensure delivery is completed safely, on programme, and to the required quality standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Section Engineer within civil engineering
• Strong background in highways and infrastructure projects
• Experience managing or overseeing Site Engineers and subcontractors
• Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, QA, and construction methodology
• Competent with GPS, total station, and levelling equipment
• HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• CSCS card - essential
