Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Section Engineer for a live MOD redevelopment project in Plymouth. The role requires BPSS clearance, with eligibility for NATO/MISWG passport holders who have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.

You will manage setting out, quality control and communications on site, ensuring drawings and records are up to date while supporting technical problem solving and project delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience in setting out and delivering site work within tolerances.
• Strong understanding of project quality plans and现场 communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepare as-built drawings.
• Establish systems to record completed work and update the Project Quality Plan.
• Manage progress of work against time, quality, dimensions and quantity.
• Assist in recording and testing workmanship and materials (drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork).
• Provide engineering support to resolve technical problems and address queries.
• Set out works within allowable tolerances and check setting out points regularly.
• Ensure setting out info is understood by the workforce for the type of work.
• Prepare sketches for distribution on site and maintain clear communication channels.
• Maintain setting out and dimensional control for accurate construction.
• Record instructions and maintain the drawing register.

Job description

KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK&Ireland. We are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking an experienced Section Engineer.

Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks.

Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

In this role

In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day to day tasks will include:

• Manage in the preparation of 'as-built drawings'.
• Establishing effective systems to record work completed updating the Project Quality Plan accordingly.
• To manage in managing systems to enable the progress of work to be reviewed against time, quality, dimensions and quantity.
• Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, i.e., drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork etc.
• Provides engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
• Responsible for setting out works constructed within allowable tolerances.
• Regularly checking the setting out points and benchmarks and checking that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
• Ensures workforce understand setting out information has been identified as suitable for the type of work being carried out.
• Manage the preparation of sketches for distribution on site, ensuring clear communication channels are in place for effective understanding.
• Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control, to ensure accurate construction of the work.
• Record instructions.
• Maintain drawing register.

Essential

Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent is desirable - one or more of: BSc, BA, BEng, Meng, Eng, Tech, MICE, TIStructE, LCIBSE, LCIBSEEng Tech, Completion of Higher Apprenticeship. SSSTS. CSCS - White PQP/AQP. May be working towards Chartership/Incorporation with IStructE, ICE or other appropriate professional body.
