Job summary

Clancy is seeking a Section Engineer to support the Thames Water contract from our Harefield site. You’ll lead technical delivery of your section, ensure drawings and specifications are interpreted correctly, and work with site teams to keep works on programme and within budget.

You’ll have NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor, SMSTS and EUSR National Water Hygiene qualifications, a full UK driving licence, and a proven track record in water/wastewater construction.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Construction Manager with delivery of water and wastewater projects from planning to completion.
  • Take responsibility for the technical delivery of your section of works, ensuring activities meet drawings and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders to obtain permits, manage site access and isolations for safe delivery.
  • Work with site teams, subcontractors and clients to resolve technical or operational issues.
  • Monitor progress and costs, keeping works on programme and within budget.
  • Support RAMS, permits and other project documentation and ensure HSE compliance.

Job description

Section Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Section Engineer to join our team, supporting the delivery of our Thames Water contract.

You’ll support the Construction Manager with the day-to-day delivery of projects ranging from £50k to £500k, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality, programme and cost standards.

Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in...
  • Supporting the Construction Manager with the delivery of water and wastewater projects from planning through to completion.
  • Taking responsibility for the technical delivery of your section of works, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and client requirements.
  • Coordinating with key stakeholders to obtain permits, arrange site access and manage isolations to enable works to be delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Working closely with site teams, subcontractors, clients and stakeholders to coordinate activities and resolve technical or operational issues.
  • Monitoring project progress and supporting the delivery of works safely, on programme and within budget.
  • Monitoring project costs, maintaining accurate records and providing weekly cost updates to support effective financial control.
  • Implementing and maintaining quality assurance processes to ensure works meet client requirements, specifications and agreed standards.
  • Supporting the preparation and review of RAMS, permits and other project documentation.
  • Carrying out site inspections and ensuring Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements are being maintained.
  • Providing technical advice and making engineering decisions and judgements relating to the design and safe operation of site activities.
  • Applying knowledge of CDM requirements and ensuring relevant responsibilities are understood and managed throughout delivery.
  • Identifying risks, technical issues and opportunities for improvement, working with the wider project team to develop practical solutions.
  • Supporting project reporting, handover and completion of works, ensuring records and documentation are accurate and complete.
We’d love to hear from you if…

You have proven experience working as a Section Engineer or similar engineering role within the water and wastewater industry, with a strong understanding of construction delivery in a regulated utilities environment.

You’ll have good technical knowledge and be confident interpreting drawings and specifications, identifying technical issues and making sound engineering decisions relating to the delivery and safe operation of site activities.

You’ll also have strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate site teams, subcontractors, clients and stakeholders and keep activities moving when priorities change.

Commercial awareness is important, and you’ll be comfortable monitoring project costs, maintaining accurate records and providing regular updates to support effective financial control.

You’ll have a good understanding of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements and CDM, together with a practical approach to managing risk and maintaining high standards across site.

NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor, SMSTS and EUSR National Water Hygiene qualifications are essential, along with a full and valid UK driving licence.
