Job summary

The Clancy Group is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead tender submissions for water utility infrastructure projects. You'll prepare first-principle estimates for self-delivered works across water mains, pipelines, drainage and related civil activities, pricing against client requirements, and collaborating with bid teams to ensure robust, competitive proposals.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team and support the preparation of accurate, competitive and commercially robust estimates across a range of water utility infrastructure projects.

This is a key role within our estimating function, working closely with Operational, Commercial, Procurement, Planning and Bid Teams to develop high-quality tender submissions for clean water and wastewater schemes.

You will be involved in estimating works across water mains, pipeline construction, service connections, drainage, chambers, ducting, reinstatement, diversions and associated civil engineering activities

Here are some of the activities your be involved with...

  • Reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications, pricing schedules and client requirements.
  • Attending site visits where required to understand project scope, constraints and delivery requirements.
  • Preparing detailed first-principle estimates for self-delivered water utility and civil engineering works.
  • Working with Operational, Commercial and Planning Teams to develop production rates, resource requirements, construction methodologies and programme assumptions.
  • Coordinating supplier and subcontractor enquiries, reviewing quotations and ensuring pricing is commercially robust.
  • Identifying tender risks, opportunities and key assumptions, including traffic management, utility constraints, stakeholder interfaces, design maturity and programme considerations.
  • Preparing tender documentation, pricing schedules, assumptions and supporting reports for internal governance and client submission.
  • Supporting tender adjudications, responding to client clarifications and ensuring a smooth handover to delivery teams.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior estimators and estimating assistants where appropriate.

We would love to hear from you if…

You have 5-10 years' estimating experience within the water utilities, utility infrastructure sector, with a strong track record of pricing clean water and wastewater projects for utility clients.

You will have experience producing first-principle estimates for self-delivered works and be confident pricing activities such as water mains, pipelines, drainage, service connections, utility installations and associated civil engineering works.

You will also have a good understanding of methods of measurement, construction methodologies and NEC contracts, with the commercial awareness to identify project risks and develop accurate, competitive tender submissions. Experience working as part of a collaborative bid team is important, along with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and client requirements.

We are looking for someone with strong Excel skills and experience using estimating software such as Conquest, Causeway, Candy or similar. Experience using take-off software, AutoCAD or project planning tools would be advantageous.

Most importantly, you will be an experienced Senior Estimator who enjoys working collaboratively, mentoring others where appropriate and taking ownership of complex tenders from enquiry through to successful handover.

A full UK driving licence is required.
