Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to lead site engineering on a major West London rail station package for a Tier-1 contractor. You will oversee technical delivery, manage a team of site engineers and coordinate interfaces across civil, structural, and fit-out works.

Reporting to the Sub Agent/Agent, you will ensure works meet safety, quality and programme targets, review RAMS/ITPs, and drive site QA processes while controlling lookahead programmes and subcontractor

Qualifications

• HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• CSCS Card required; SSSTS/SMSTS advantageous.
• Experience as Senior Engineer or Section Engineer on major civil/rail projects.
• Ability to interpret complex drawings and manage QA/ITPs.
• Strong leadership and coordination across multiple sub-contractors.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day engineering activities across your section, ensuring safety, quality and progress.
• Review and approve RAMS, Risk Assessments, and ITPs prior to construction activities.
• Line-manage and mentor Senior/ Site Engineers and oversee setting out checks.
• Manage RFIs and coordinate design changes with engineers/consultants.
• Oversee subcontractor packages (roofing, structural steel, facades, fit-out) and interfaces.
• Monitor 2- and 4-week lookahead programmes and identify risks and mitigations.
• Promote a proactive health and safety culture with daily briefings and inspections.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced

Section Engineer to join a Tier-1 main contractor delivering one of the largest and most high-profile rail infrastructure super-hubs currently underway in West London.

Reporting to the Sub Agent / Agent, you will take operational ownership of technical delivery and site engineering management for a major station package, encompassing structural elements, facades, steelwork, and architectural fit-out. You will lead a team of site engineers, coordinate complex subcontractor interfaces, and ensure works are delivered safely, to quality standards, and strictly on programme.

Key Responsibilities

Site Delivery & Supervision: Lead the day-to-day engineering activities across your designated section, ensuring safety, quality, and progress standards are met.

Engineering Management: Review and approve Method Statements, Risk Assessments (RAMS), and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) prior to construction activities.

Team Leadership: Line-manage and mentor a team of Senior Engineers and Site Engineers, taking responsibility for standard setting-out checks and technical compliance.

Technical Interface & RFIs: Manage technical queries (RFIs), coordinate design changes with engineering consultants, and resolve interface clashes between civil, structural, and fit-out packages.

Subcontractor Management: Oversee key sub-contractor packages (roofing, structural steel, facades, and station fit-out), ensuring compliance with specifications and design details.

Programme & Cost Control: Monitor 2-week and 4-week lookahead programmes, identifying risks, constraints, and mitigation strategies while keeping accurate commercial and shift records.

Health, Safety & Environment: Promote a proactive safety culture on site, leading daily briefings, permit sign-offs, and quality/safety inspections.

Person Specification

Qualification: HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

Certifications: Valid CSCS Card and SSSTS/SMSTS.

Technical Experience: Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Section Engineer on major civil engineering or commercial construction projects.

Site Knowledge: Strong background interpreting complex architectural/structural drawings, managing site QA processes (ITPs), and overseeing setting out.

Communication: Outstanding leadership skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple internal disciplines and external subcontractors.

Experience delivering major rail infrastructure, station developments, or complex building fit-out packages (facades, structural steelwork, roofing).

Professional membership or working towards accreditation with the ICE, CIOB, or similar body.
