Job summary

We are currently recruiting for a Secondary Teaching Assistant to support students within a secondary school in the Tameside area, starting in September.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children or young people of secondary school age in some capacity. This could include experience in a school, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, support work, or a similar setting.

You will be supporting pupils in the classroom, assisting teaching staff, helping students stay engaged in learning, and using effective behaviour management strategies where required.

  • Supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • Working with students on a one-to-one, small group, and whole-class basis
  • Assisting the class teacher with learning activities and classroom routines
  • Supporting pupils with additional needs where required
  • Helping to manage behaviour and encourage positive engagement
  • Building strong relationships with students and staff
  • Promoting confidence, independence, and progress in learning
  • Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • A calm, confident, and resilient approach
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students

  • Passion for supporting young people in education
  • Previous SEN experience
  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or additional learning needs
