These schools cater for students with autism, learning difficulties, communication difficulties, and sensory overload. Although students are secondary age, the curriculum is tailored to their cognitive needs and may learn at a lower level such as a primary level. These schools are looking for teaching assistants with or without experience, who are interested in working with special needs and keen to learn and make a difference to students' academic and life skills. As a teaching assistant, you will be working in class sizes of 8 - 14 students per class, working with a class teacher and collaboratively with other teaching assistants that include English, maths, drama, history, music, and PE, and also supporting students with the Duke of Edinburgh program.

The role:
  • Working Monday to Friday
  • Supporting secondary students within a class
  • Working one to one with students
  • Differentiating work to meet students' needs
  • Supporting students within the community
  • Helping within employability programs
  • Managing behaviour due to sensory overload
  • Working on a long-term basis
