You'll provide tailored 1:1 tuition across the secondary curriculum, helping pupils build confidence, overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful progress towards their individual academic and personal goals.

Sessions may take place in pupils' homes, secondary schools or community settings, offering flexibility and the opportunity to create a learning environment that works for each young person.

The Role
  • Deliver engaging, personalised 1:1 tuition for secondary-aged pupils.
  • Support young people with needs including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language needs, SEMH and other learning difficulties.
  • Teach across the secondary curriculum, with opportunities to specialise in subjects such as English, maths, science, humanities, modern foreign languages and other GCSE subjects.
  • Support pupils with literacy, numeracy, study skills, organisation and independent learning.
  • Prepare and support pupils for GCSEs, functional skills qualifications, assessments and other relevant examinations where appropriate.
  • Assess each young person's learning needs and establish appropriate objectives.
  • Plan and deliver structured, differentiated lessons aligned with individual learning plans and, where appropriate, the National Curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
  • Adapt teaching approaches, resources and strategies to suit each pupil's age, ability, developmental stage and individual needs.
  • Build positive relationships and develop pupils' confidence, independence, motivation and engagement with education.
  • Support pupils who may have experienced disrupted education, school attendance difficulties or barriers to accessing mainstream education.
  • Monitor progress and provide clear reports on learning, engagement and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Create a safe, supportive, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow appropriate safeguarding and SEND procedures.
What we're looking for
  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND/SEN.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 tuition, interventions or personalised classroom support.
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary curriculum and/or relevant subject specialism.
  • Experience teaching or supporting GCSE-level subjects is highly desirable.
  • A recognised teaching or tutoring qualification, such as QTS, PGCE/PGDE or another relevant certification.
  • A good understanding of different SEN needs and effective secondary teaching strategies.
  • The ability to make learning engaging, accessible and appropriate for each pupil's age and ability.
  • Experience supporting young people with exam preparation, revision, study skills or independent learning.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills.
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's and young people's welfare.
  • An Enhanced DBS or willingness to complete the required process.
Specialist experience welcome
  • Experience working in secondary SEN schools, specialist provisions, resource bases or alternative provision.
  • Specialist SEN/SEND qualifications.
  • Level 3, Level 4 or Level 5 education or SEN qualifications.
  • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) qualifications.
  • Experience supporting pupils working towards GCSEs, Functional Skills or other secondary-level qualifications.
  • Subject specialisms in English, maths, science, humanities, modern foreign languages or other GCSE subjects.
  • Training or experience in literacy, numeracy, study skills, revision strategies or communication-based interventions.
  • Experience supporting young people with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism, speech and language needs or SEMH.
  • Experience using visual timetables, sensory resources, Makaton, PECS or other communication strategies.
  • Experience delivering intervention programmes or personalised learning plans.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Experience supporting young people who are disengaged from mainstream education or accessing alternative provision.
  • Experience supporting pupils with school attendance difficulties, anxiety around education or other barriers to learning.
  • Experience helping pupils develop confidence, independence, organisation and study skills.
