Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking an enthusiastic Secondary English Tutor to support secondary learners in Wirral with tailored literacy interventions. You will run one-to-one sessions designed to strengthen writing, comprehension and confidence for school assessments and GCSEs where appropriate.

Deliver personalised tuition for KS3 and GCSE, assess progress, and adapt resources to suit individual learners, with a flexible 5–15 hours per week schedule starting October 2026.

Qualifications

• QTS or PGCE desirable
• Strong English Language and English Literature knowledge
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience
• Experience supporting learners needing extra academic support
• Excellent communication and organisational skills

About the Role

Prospero Teaching is seeking an enthusiastic English Tutor to provide tailored academic support to secondary-aged learners who need help strengthening their literacy skills and making progress in English.

You will deliver engaging one-to-one sessions designed around each learner's abilities, helping them improve their written work, comprehension and confidence in preparation for school assessments and GCSE examinations where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver personalised English tuition at KS3 and GCSE level, as appropriate
• Support reading comprehension, spelling, grammar and written expression
• Develop examination technique and analytical skills
• Identify learning gaps and set achievable targets
• Adapt resources and teaching methods to suit individual learners

Experience, Training and Qualifications

• QTS, PGCE or equivalent relevant qualification desirable
• Strong English Language and English Literature subject knowledge
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience
• Experience supporting learners who require additional academic support
• Excellent communication and organisational skills

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain the required clearance
