Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Secondary English Tutor to deliver personalised 1:1 support for learners across the BCP area. Working with Local Authorities, you will help students with literacy, communication and confidence in English, tailoring lessons to individual needs.

The role emphasizes flexible hours and opportunities to support GCSEs and other qualifications while contributing to meaningful progress for learners with varied educational needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting (tutoring/teaching/learning support).
• Strong English subject knowledge.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged learners.
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons.
• Experience with SEND/EHCPs or additional needs is desirable.

Secondary English Tutor

Help Young People Build Confidence in English

We're looking for a Secondary English Tutor to provide personalised 1:1 support to children and young people across the BCP area.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision and benefit from tailored educational support. Many of the students we work with face barriers to learning and need a tutor who can help improve literacy, communication, comprehension, and written skills while building confidence and engagement with education.

This is an excellent opportunity for education professionals who are passionate about English and enjoy helping learners achieve meaningful progress.

Hours: Flexible

Pay Rate: 25- 30 per hour

Type: 1:1 Tuition

Requirements

• Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, learning support, mentoring, or similar roles
• Strong English subject knowledge
• Experience supporting secondary-aged learners
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons
• Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Patient, adaptable, and encouraging approach
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally across the BCP area

• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• ADHD
• Anxiety and school avoidance
• EHCPs and additional educational needs
