The Secondary Design Engineer will lead a geographically diverse team of designers, subcontractors, engineers, and project teams working on protection and control schematics and substation equipment.

This role offers a high-level overview of design and interface with various teams throughout the project cycle.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

The Secondary Design Engineer is the technical guarantor of the proper performance of design work conditions in their field of activity, ensuring adherence to the design budget (man-days), deadlines, and quality standards, in line with customer expectations, while promoting ease of installation, operation, and maintenance of the system.

The successful candidate will plan basic and detailed design activities, manage and oversee detailed execution progress, coordinate the delivery of required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing, and site erection, based on customer specifications and internal standards.

  • Establish document list for your field based on tender, contract analysis, and project strategy.
  • Evaluate engineering workload and deliverable dates with PEM or PM, and commit to budget and timelines.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of designs and partner documents with suitable quality.
  • Lead and coordinate the design team, managing detailed execution progress.
  • Request and coordinate technical meetings with partners or suppliers as needed.
  • Highlight scope or design changes, inform PEM/PM of issues, and propose solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with customer technical requirements and look for cost optimizations.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant degree - electrical or mechanical, depending on the field of activity involved.
  • Significant engineering experience in the related activity/discipline, preferably in project & EPC environments in T&D, Power Generation, or Oil & Gas industry, or 2 to 4 medium-sized projects as Lead Engineer.
  • Experience in project technical management processes, preferably in a multidisciplinary team with multiple interfaces.
  • Experience managing externally subcontracted design work packages of various sizes.
  • Knowledge of the Transmission or Distribution industry.
