Job summary

Bitterne Park School is seeking an ambitious Second in Science for a fixed-term maternity cover from January 2027. The role involves strategic leadership within the Science Department, delivering high-quality lessons and developing an aspirational curriculum to raise student achievement.

Experience in secondary Science teaching with a Physics focus is preferred, but Biology, Chemistry or Combined Science specialists are welcome.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
• Degree in science or a related field.
• Experience teaching science at secondary level.
• Excellent classroom practice and subject knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Science in strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the department.
• Deliver engaging Science lessons that promote high student achievement.
• Develop and implement an ambitious Science curriculum.
• Monitor student progress and implement interventions to raise attainment.
• Share best practice and contribute to professional development of colleagues.
• Lead on departmental improvement and innovation.
