Second in History - Secondary Academy - Swindon, Wiltshire

Location: Swindon, Wiltshire
Position: Second in History
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: 1st September 2025
Salary (Actual): £31,650 - £49,084 Annually (FTE)
Grade: MPS/UPS (Depending on experience) + TLR2B

Our client, a vibrant and inclusive secondary academy based in Swindon, Wiltshire, is seeking an ambitious and motivated Second in History to join their successful Humanities department on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and committed History teacher ready to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will support the Head of Department in leading a passionate team, driving academic excellence, and delivering an engaging History curriculum that inspires curiosity and historical thinking.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the strategic leadership and development of the History department
  • Teach high-quality History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and Key Stage 5 if applicable)
  • Assist in curriculum planning, assessment, and the monitoring of student progress
  • Lead on areas of departmental improvement and contribute to raising attainment
  • Mentor and support colleagues, including early career teachers
  • Promote a love of history through enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching History across a range of key stages
  • A proven track record of strong classroom practice and pupil outcomes
  • The ability to lead, inspire, and support colleagues
  • A commitment to continued professional development and whole-school contribution
