Job description

Are you ready to inspire and lead?

At Co-op Swinton, we are seeking a dynamic Second in Department for Mathematics to guide curriculum development, foster collaboration, and elevate student outcomes. As part of Co-op Academies Trust, you will have the opportunity to innovate, inspire, and raise achievement levels across the school within a supportive leadership team.

Our aim is to ensure that our students are given every opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of background. We are looking for a second in department who shares our vision for an ambitious, supportive, and nurturing learning environment and curriculum. Alongside academic success, we pride ourselves on excellent student behavior, based on rewards rather than sanctions. Working closely with our dedicated teaching staff and caring pastoral team, you will support students throughout their secondary education, role-modeling professional behaviors and embodying our values.

Why us?

Our academy caters to pupils aged 11-16. Conveniently located with Swinton train station less than five minutes away, we have a committed team that builds positive relationships and fosters a caring culture. Our recent Ofsted inspection (June 2024) graded us as ‘Good’ in all areas.

Our values are rooted in the Co-op Group’s principles, guiding our behaviors:

  • Self-help: We aim to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.
  • Self-responsibility: Everyone should act responsibly on-site and in the community, taking responsibility for their own learning to become independent learners.
  • Equality: We celebrate our multicultural environment, treating everyone with respect and ensuring equal opportunities for success.
  • Equity: We recognize and reward achievement fairly, encouraging all types of success.
  • Democracy: We contribute ideas to make the academy successful.
  • Solidarity: We believe teamwork achieves more than individual effort.
Our Values

As part of the Co-operative Group, our ‘Ways of Being’ include:

  • Succeed together
  • Do what matters most
  • Be yourself, always
  • Show you care

If you share these values, we would love to hear from you!

Benefits and Rewards

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 10% discount in Co-op Food stores as a Co-op member
  • Flexible benefits such as discounted line rental, broadband, family care advice, and cycle to work schemes
  • Discounted gym memberships and leisure activities, including Merlin Entertainments, Virgin Experience Days, SuperBreak, and more
  • Co-op Credit Union savings and loans with competitive interest rates
  • Co-op Funeralcare benefits
  • Season ticket and rental deposit loans
