If you’re an aspiring chef with experience gained in a high-paced kitchen environment and are looking for a rewarding role offering great training, work-life balance, and the chance to be part of an award-winning catering team, consider joining Care UK as a Second Chef and make a real difference.
Second Chefs at Care UK excel at teamwork. They share information, raise standards through culinary development, innovation, and new ideas. They have access to a large supply chain for all catering requirements and the autonomy to create nutritious, well-balanced menus for everyone. They are self-motivated, flexible, enthusiastic, and responsible for resolving issues that arise. They also maintain team discipline and morale within the kitchen. Do you possess similar attributes? Then this role might be perfect for you.
As a Second Chef, your responsibilities include assisting the Head Chef in ensuring food is prepared to standard and deadlines are met, taking control of the kitchen in their absence, using modern kitchen equipment and fresh local produce to develop full, diet-sensitive meals for residents, and helping to design menus that meet residents' needs and preferences. You will also prepare food in line with specific dietary requirements. Ultimately, your work makes a difference in people's lives.
You should have a Catering Diploma (City & Guilds/BTEC), NVQ Level 2/3 in practical cookery, and Health and Safety certification. Food Hygiene Certificates (minimum Level 2) are essential. A good understanding of nutritionally balanced menu planning and experience catering to specific dietary needs are required. Experience in a care home, stock control, or working within a budget is advantageous but not essential. Above all, you should have a genuine desire to improve the lives of others and thrive in a challenging yet rewarding environment.
