Job summary

Sodexo in Tidworth is seeking a Second Chef to support the Head Chef in day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality meals and strict food-safety standards.

You will lead the team when required, manage daily prep for mess meals and events, and contribute to stock control and HACCP compliance. The role includes a 5-day out of 7 rota with weekend shifts and a pay rate of £14.61 per hour.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent vocational experience.
• Level 2 or Level 3 Award in Food Safety in Catering.
• Proven experience as a Chef de Partie, Second Chef or Sous Chef in a commercial kitchen, catering or mess environment.
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, allergen control, food safety and health and safety compliance, with the ability to lead and communicate effectively under pressure.
• Basic computer skills for stock control, ordering and recording hygiene checks.

Responsibilities

• Daily food preparation, cooking and service for mess meals, functions and catered events.
• Supervising kitchen staff, delegating preparation tasks and supporting team scheduling.
• Monitoring stock levels, conducting inventory checks, assisting with ordering and minimising food waste.
• Ensuring compliance with Food Safety, HACCP, COSHH and health and safety regulations across all kitchen areas.
• Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, maintaining high food quality standards and leading the team in their absence.
