Job summary

Meallmore is opening Pitfodels Wood Care Home in Aberdeen, offering residential, nursing, dementia and respite care. As Second Chef you will support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals, with a focus on seasonal, locally sourced produce and resident well-being.

• Support Head Chef to plan and prepare high-quality meals using seasonal ingredients.
• Assist in menu development to create memorable dining experiences for residents and families.
• Coach care teams on safe, appropriate textured dining solutions tailored to individual needs.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety and quality in daily operations.

Pitfodels Wood Care Home, Aberdeen – Opening Autumn 2026

Opening in 2026, Pitfodels Wood is a new, purpose-built 65-bed care home on North Deeside Road within the Pitfodels Conservation Area, close to Cults and Aberdeen’s West End. The home will provide residential, nursing, dementia and respite care in comfortable, carefully designed surroundings

Role & Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef to organise, plan and prepare high-quality nutritious home-cooked meals using seasonal menus that are locally sourced tailored to resident’s individual needs, preferences and dietary requirements ensuring a high-quality person-centred dining experience
• You will be involved in menu development that creates precious and memorable dining experiences that residents and their loved ones will treasure, while bringing comfort, joy and connection through the simple pleasure of great food
• Working alongside the Head Chef, support and coach the care teams on safe and appropriate textured dining solutions, ensuring residents enjoy meals that are tailored to their individual needs with confidence, comfort and choice
• Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety and quality are maintained ensuring residents receive outstanding hospitality every day

Skills & Requirements

• Strong cookery skills and creativity in preparing home cooked nutritious meals for our residents

• A compassionate approach with a commitment to enhancing residents wellbeing through outstanding food and hospitality
• Ability to work to deadlines meeting the needs of the residents

• Great communication and interpersonal skills

• Knowledge of food safety practices, nutrition, specialist dietary requirements and allergens

• A culinary qualification is desirable but not essential
