Job summary

Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control seeks a casual/seasonal interpretive programs assistant for First State Heritage Park. The role supports educational programs, visitor services and special events throughout the year.

The position requires weekend/evening availability, a focus on customer service, and the ability to craft interpretive content and perform in First-Person programs. Prior experience with public speaking is valued.

Qualifications

• Six months experience working with children and young adults such as environmental educator/classroom assistant, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, or youth volunteer.
• Experience with care and handling of animals.
• Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
• Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

• Lead school and public educational programs tied to State standards to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s cultural resources.
• Develop and maintain exhibits, educational and historical site material.
• Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
• Plan, organize and conduct interpretive walks, programs and tours.
• Perform custodial services in historic sites and offices.
• Set-up, monitor and provide support for park programs and special events.
• Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned.
