Job summary

Legal & General in Greater London is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to develop and test enterprise applications using Java and JVM‑based languages, with strong AWS cloud and serverless expertise. The role focuses on building scalable cloud solutions and ensuring high code quality.

You will contribute to CI/CD pipelines, secure coding practices, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve quality, security and reliability across distributed systems, while mentoring colleagues

Qualifications

• Strong experience developing and testing enterprise applications using Java or other JVM‑based languages.
• Proven expertise working with AWS cloud services, including serverless technologies and containerised solutions
• Strong knowledge of software testing practices, including test‑driven development and automation frameworks
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines, source control processes and automated deployment practices
• Good understanding of microservices, distributed systems, APIs and modern software architecture patterns
• Knowledge of web security, API security and secure software development practices
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments such as Scrum or Kanban
• Strong collaboration, communication and problem‑solving skills, with a passion for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance high‑quality software features and automated testing solutions across cloud‑based applications
• Analyse complex technical challenges and resolve end‑to‑end issues across distributed systems
• Define and implement test strategies that improve quality, security, usability and accessibility
• Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practice across functional and non‑functional requirements
• Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes and platform reliability
• Collaborate with engineers to reduce technical debt and evolve application architecture
• Mentor colleagues, share technical knowledge and contribute to a culture of continuous learning
• Research emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve products, tooling and ways of working
