Your role:

At Wesleyan we are embracing our Agile capability and are on a journey to move further into this space; we have an Agile community practice, where our Scrum Masters work together to deliver and make improvements.

We are looking to expand on this capability by bringing in an experienced Project Manager who has also worked in a Scrum Master capacity, with a passion for delivering value and driving agility in support of our Transformation agenda.

You will play a substantive role as a Project Manager (fulfilling the Scrum Master role) supporting a product or feature team. In addition to the typical project management (end to end delivery leadership) responsibilities, the Scrum Master is responsible for managing the relationship with the Product Owner, making commitments on behalf of the team to the deliver features and value to sprint goals, release dates and quality standards.

Responsibilities to the team include service leadership, leading on the ‘how’ we delivery (adopting agile frameworks, methods and practices), driving ‘relentless improvements’, reporting on progress, removing blockers and challenging the wider change eco system to maximise agility.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting a Scrum/Product or Feature team(s) in driving relentless improvements in ‘how’ we deliver value (in product increment form) through the adoption of agility in all forms.
  • Lead in collaborating with the wider project team when delivering features for them respecting where agile methods and frameworks need to fit with hybrid and waterfall approaches.
  • Establish effective Scrum ceremonies; facilitate ceremonies such as daily stand ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and review meetings, ensuring all team ceremonies run efficiently and effectively.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner and the Development Team to ensure requirements are well defined
  • Articulate issues clearly to Stakeholders, influencing opinion and direction at all levels using knowledge of systems, products, processes, and functions.
  • Plan and deliver business outcomes identifying and agreeing epics, user stories and backlog items.
  • Proactively monitor against budget and plan, applying knowledge, experience and lessons learned to identify and mitigate potential risks and issues where appropriate.
  • Demonstrable Agile experience as both a Project Manager and a Scrum Master
  • Experience of leading the team through full project lifecycle following Agile frameworks.
  • In depth understanding of Agile values and practices, specifically should have an excellent understanding of SCRUM.
  • Solid understanding of iterative development, incremental delivery and the value of measuring success and failure.
  • Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and proactive advocate with broader adoption of agile ways of working
  • Experience in the delivery of change, with evidence of the ability to work within a waterfall and agile.
  • Experience of influencing Stakeholders at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of systems such as DevOps/JIRA to extract necessary data to inform decisions
  • Ideally, you’ll hold a Professional Scrum Master Qualification: Certified Scrum Master, Professional Scrum Master, Certified Product Owner or Certified Kanban Practitioner
  • Experience within Financial Services would be desirable, but is not essential to be successful with us
  • 28 days annual leave (plus 1 additional “culture day” & bank holidays) – increases to 30 days with 5 years’ service
  • Free secure underground Birmingham city centre parking (available on weekends for personal use – subject to availability)
  • Annual performance-based bonus
  • Pension contributions matched (+ 2%)
  • Cashback and discounts on major brands in retail, leisure, health, and wellbeing
  • Enhanced maternity & paternity pay
  • 2 volunteering days per year
