Medacs Healthcare is recruiting locum Scrub Nurses for Royal Stoke Hospital in Stoke-On-Trent. You will join a multi-specialty theatre team, preparing the operating room, maintaining sterility, and assisting surgeons during procedures.

This agency position offers weekday shifts with flexibility to cover different surgical specialties. Ideal candidates hold HCPC or NMC Registration, with at least 6 months UK scrub experience and the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre and ensure instruments, equipment and materials are sterile and ready.
  • Set up instrument trays, check equipment functionality and maintain sterility during procedures.
  • Assist surgeons by passing instruments, handling specimens and tracking items.
  • Monitor sterile field and respond to equipment or workflow issues.
  • Maintain accurate surgical counts before, during and after procedures.
  • Support post-operative duties including instrument decontamination and documentation.

Salary: £15.70- £33.51 per hour

Contract Type: Agency

Shift Patterns: Available Monday to Friday 08:00-18:00

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a multi-skilled scrub team delivering safe, high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties, including:

  • Orthopaedics & Trauma
  • Head & Neck
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • General Surgery
  • Urology
  • Vascular
You will be:
  • responsible for preparing the operating theatre, ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and materials are sterile, complete, and ready for use
  • supporting the surgical team by setting up instrument trays, checking equipment functionality, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure
  • responsible for directly assisting surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling specimens, and ensuring all items are accounted for
  • monitoring the sterile field and responding quickly to any issues, such as equipment problems, breaks in sterility, or changes in the surgical workflow
  • ensuring accurate surgical counts before, during, and after the procedure to maintain patient safety
  • supporting post-operative duties, including safe disposal of equipment, instrument decontamination, and documentation
What You’ll Need

Essential:

  • HCPC or NMC Registration (RGN/ODP)
  • Minimum of 6 months UK based Operating Theatre experience
  • Right to work in the UK (No visa sponsorship is available for this role)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) / Paediatric ILS
  • Mentoring or teaching qualification
