Job summary

Affidea UK is expanding, opening a new ambulatory clinic in Wimbledon, London. We are hiring a Scrub Practitioner to join our Theatres team, supporting perioperative care in a two-theatre suite including laminar flow and an endoscopy area.

You will work as part of a dynamic team delivering compassionate, patient-centred care and help shape service development at the ground floor of this new clinic.

Qualifications

• Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration (required).
• Experience in operating theatres, ideally within a relevant surgical speciality (required).
• Sound understanding of contemporary theatre and nursing practice, infection prevention and control, and patient safety standards (required).
• Endoscopy experience (desirable).
• Surgical First Assistant qualification (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Act in the scrub role, perform mandatory surgical checks before, during and after wound closure.
• Assemble, check and prepare surgical equipment, drugs and consumables for lists.
• Undertake circulating role as required across scrub and circulating duties.
• Conduct patient checks against documentation at key perioperative points.
• Monitor and replenish theatre and endoscopy consumables; check bookings for implants/instruments.
• Oversee smooth running of theatre and endoscopy lists.
• Maintain sterile field and follow infection prevention policies, including laminar flow theatre.
• Mentor junior staff and support training and development.
• Complete accurate theatre and endoscopy documentation, including theatre register.
• Contribute to development of policies, procedures, audits; adhere to Health & Safety and CQC regs.
• Undertake basic patient observations and respond to deterioration.

About The Role

We are looking to recruit a Scrub Practitioner to join our Theatres team, with a competitive salary range on offer depending on experience. Our theatre suite comprises two theatres – including a laminar flow theatre – and an endoscopy suite.

What will the duties include?

• Acting in the scrub role, undertaking mandatory surgical checks prior to, during and before wound closure for a range of surgical and endoscopy procedures.
• Assembling, checking and preparing surgical equipment, drugs and consumables ahead of each list, coordinating their safe and appropriate use throughout theatres and the endoscopy suite.
• Undertaking the circulating role as required, working professionally and proficiently across both scrub and circulating duties.
• Conducting mandatory patient checks against supporting documentation at key points in the perioperative pathway, and assisting in the safe transfer and positioning of patients.
• Monitoring, ordering and replenishing theatre and endoscopy consumables, and checking bookings to ensure the correct implants, instruments and scopes are available for each case.
• Overseeing the smooth and efficient running of theatre and endoscopy lists.
• Maintaining a sterile field and following infection prevention and control policy at all times, including within the laminar flow theatre.
• Acting as a role model and mentor to junior staff, supporting their training and development.
• Completing accurate patient, theatre and endoscopy documentation, including the theatre register.
• Assisting with ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including participating in the development of policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and audits.
• Adhering to appropriate Health & Safety guidelines and regulations.
• Ensuring Care Quality Commission regulations related to Theatres and Endoscopy are adhered to.
• Undertaking basic patient observations, recognising a deteriorating patient, and managing immediately and appropriately.
