Job summary

The Optegra private eye hospital is seeking a registered nurse or ODP to join the ophthalmic theatre team as a scrub nurse. You will assist surgeons with instruments, manage peri-operative care, and support the refractive suite with precision across operative and post-operative steps.

Essential is current NMC or ODP registration with no restrictions and at least twelve months in ophthalmic theatre. You will maintain records, handle decontamination and disposal, and help ensure patient privacy

• Qualification in ophthalmology or peri-operative care.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled clinical and technical assistance as part of the operating theatre team.
• Carry out registered nursing duties: assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care.
• Maintain patient privacy and dignity per policies and report difficulties to senior staff.
• Anticipate the surgical team's needs by providing instruments and equipment.
• Ensure decontamination and sterilisation of reusable equipment is carried out and evidenced.
• Complete documentation to ensure traceability.
• Provide peri-operative and post-operative care in the surgical and refractive suite.
• Assist with minor operations.

Job description

Scrub nurse role in the operating theatre team at Optegra's private eye hospital, covering the ophthalmic surgical pathway. The post centres on assisting surgeons with instruments and equipment, keeping decontamination and disposal records, and documenting care. Work spans peri-operative and post-operative care in the surgical and refractive suite, plus some minor operations. Fit depends on current, unrestricted NMC or ODP registration and at least a year in ophthalmic theatre.

What the job involves

• Take part in all aspects of the ophthalmic surgical pathway
• Provide care to all patients
• Give skilled clinical and technical assistance as part of the operating theatre team

• Maintain patient privacy and dignity in line with trust and department policies, and report difficulties to senior staff

What’s required

Registration & licences

Experience

• One year or more of ophthalmology surgical theatre experience

Skills & knowledge

• Computer and IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Awareness of responsibilities under the NMC Professional Code of Conduct
• Awareness of CQC standards and requirements
