Job summary

Optegra Eye Healthcare in Colindale, North London, seeks an experienced Scrub Nurse to join the operating theatre team. You will provide skilled clinical and technical assistance across the ophthalmic surgical pathway, including perioperative and postoperative care as needed.

The role requires an NMC/ODP registered professional with ophthalmology theatre experience. Access to funded training and a supportive team environment is provided.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered General Nurse or ODP
  • Current NMC/ODP registration with no restrictions
  • Qualification in Ophthalmology or perioperative care
  • One year ophthalmology theatre experience
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and IT systems

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a full range of registered healthcare duties including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Anticipate surgical team needs and provide appropriate instrumentation
  • Ensure proper disposal, decontamination and sterilisations of equipment
  • Complete documentation for traceability and regulatory compliance

The Role

The job holder will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the Ophthalmic Surgical pathway at Optegra. They will provide excellent care to all patients, with specific responsibility for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team, and also may include peri‑operative and post‑operative care in the surgical and refractive suite of the hospital, and assisting with minor operations.

Key responsibilities
  • Carries out a full range of registered heath care professional duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s condition and care with support from the Practitioner in charge. Maintains the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any difficulties with these duties to senior staff.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, by provision or appropriate surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Take responsibility to ensure all surgical equipment is disposed of correctly including ensuring appropriate decontamination and sterilisation of reusable equipment is carried out and can be evidenced.
  • Ensure all documentation for traceability is effectively completed.
Requirements
  • Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
  • Current NMC/ODP registration with no restrictions
  • Qualification in Ophthalmology or Peri operative care
  • One year or more ophthalmology surgical theatre experienceComputer and IT skills i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Awareness of responsibilities in relation to NMC Professional Code of Conduct
  • Awareness of CQC standards and requirements
