To train as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Health Visiting
To work alongside the Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor to develop enhanced skills in Specialist Public Health Community Nursing.
Complete SCPHN Apprentice course at level 7, meeting the required Apprenticeship Standards, University Academic Standards, and the NMC Standards for qualification.
The apprenticeship programme combines academic and work-based learning through collaboration between employers and education providers.
50% of the time will be on placement, with a Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor guiding and assessing your development. The remaining 50% will be university-based, including study days and assessments.
Main duties of the job
- Train as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Health Visiting
- Develop enhanced skills in Specialist Public Health Community Nursing alongside Practice Supervisor and Assessor
- Complete Level 7 SCPHN Apprentice course, adhering to Apprenticeship, University, and NMC standards
- Maintain registration standards with the NMC, ensuring client and staff safety, and acting as a role model
- Work with children, young people, and families to explore solutions, plan interventions, safeguard, and promote public health in collaboration with Stockport Family colleagues
- Follow NMC, Apprenticeship, Trust Values, Governance, and Quality Assurance standards to promote a safe and high-quality care environment
- Implement standards from national directives and local policies/SOPs
- Reflect on practice and support service improvement
- Work within Stockport Family’s integrated service, applying restorative principles

Job responsibilities
- Develop and work alongside the Stockport Family Team
- Submit reports and information under supervision
- Deliver evidence-based practice
- Contribute to service improvement and governance
- Participate in audits and training, including non-patient moving and handling
- Travel independently across Stockport with access to a suitable vehicle, with adjustments considered under the Equality Act
- Support delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and assess child development
- Provide SEND advice and support early help initiatives
- Engage in multidisciplinary team activities and safeguarding procedures
- Undertake assessments related to mental health, safeguarding, and family support
- Maintain accurate records in line with policies and protocols
- Participate in supervision and multi-agency meetings
- Progress to manage workload with supervision, including leading assessments and meetings as skills develop
- Work in various community settings, supporting diversity and inclusion
- Complete administrative duties and adhere to statutory requirements
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, complying with policies
- This role requires an enhanced DBS check (£54.50) and subscription to the DBS update service (£16 annually)
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Current First Level Registration on Parts 1 or 2 of the NMC register or expected completion by August 2025
- Up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating reflective, evidence-based practice
- 120 academic credits at Level 5 or APEL equivalent
- First degree in a relevant subject, 2:2 classification or above
- Level 6 or 7 study
Knowledge
- Knowledge of nursing and evidence-based practice
- Understanding of the Healthy Child Programme
- Alignment with Trust values
- Knowledge of child development, SEND, health, and well-being
- Awareness of future roles in the pathway
- Political awareness and understanding of NHS principles
Experience
- Experience working with adults and/or children in healthcare
- Experience in community nursing and health promotion/public health
- Experience in multi-agency liaison/working
Work-related circumstances
- Ability to travel across Stockport independently with access to a suitable vehicle; adjustments considered under the Equality Act
- Provide academic and personal references for the university
