The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It focuses on accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.

The Subject Matter Expert for Scope 2 will contribute technical expertise to develop standards and resources related to Scope 2 and corporate energy sourcing, integrating scientific research into actionable standards. The role involves collaborating with senior and cross-functional teams to ensure outputs are robust and aligned with best practices, embodying SBTi’s values and fostering a positive work culture.

This role is crucial in defining credible corporate sourcing of zero-carbon energy and integrating it into SBTi Standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing expertise for SBTi’s standards and guidance on Scope 2 and energy sourcing
• Collaborating on drafting and reviewing standards and documents
• Monitoring trends and research to maintain expertise
• Preparing and delivering presentations, webinars, and workshops
• Collaborating across departments to maximize impact
• Engaging with external technical partners

Essential skills and experience:

• 7+ years in relevant fields like standard-setting, GHG accounting, and decarbonisation with focus on zero-carbon energy
• Proven track record of delivering responsibilities on time and high standards
• Experience in research, data analysis, and synthesizing complex info
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Proficiency with relevant tools and software
• Knowledge of market-based instruments for clean energy
• Strong project and team management skills
• Experience in multi-stakeholder processes
• Knowledge of standard-setting organizations and ISEAL Codes (preferred)

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract based in London, with possible extension. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the specified countries; no visa sponsorships are available.
