Job Title: Scientist - Team Leader

Hourly Rate: £28.31ph (INSIDE IR35 Umbrella)

Hours: 36 hours per week, 9am – 5pm, Thursday – Monday

The RSSL (Microbiology - Speciality Biopharma) laboratory performs a wide range of analytical analyses for food, pharmaceutical, and healthcare companies and supports Mondelez research and innovation.

The role involves practical work with potential supervisory responsibilities within the Microbiology - Speciality Biopharma laboratory.

You will play a key role in ensuring projects are performed and supervised effectively, accurately, within agreed timescales, and to quality standards.

This role focuses on routine and investigative analyses of products, method development, and validation using techniques such as Bioburdens, Total Viable Aerobic Count, Endotoxins, Environmental Monitoring, and more.

Supervise and train junior team members, handle client contact, and provide administrative support for laboratory management.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality customer service by effectively organizing workload, ensuring data integrity, and delivering results promptly and accurately.
  • Review data analyses performed by junior staff.
  • Perform routine and investigative analyses independently and interpret results.
  • Assist with method development, transfers, and validation protocol design.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and systems, including reviewing supplier reports.
  • Support technical aspects of client proposals for method development, transfers, and validation.
  • Be a superuser of equipment software, capable of report setup and troubleshooting.
  • Train and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods.
  • Work across different laboratories as needed.
Knowledge, Education, Qualifications, and Skills (REQUIRED):
  • Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Good understanding of lab equipment (specify if possible).
  • Ability to conduct chemical analysis independently.
  • Accountable, honest, hardworking, and team-oriented.
  • Flexible, adaptable, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple activities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, quick learner.
  • Ability to organize own and others' work to maximize output.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
