XCellR8 is seeking a Scientist I to support day-to-day scientific activities in the laboratory, performing in vitro studies to GLP compliance and assisting with documentation. You will collaborate with Senior Scientists, QA and teammates, contributing to safe, animal-free testing.

The role involves routine cell culture maintenance, assisting with new test methods, and supporting data handling, study files and reports while upholding GDP and GLP standards and the company’s mission to accelerate

Responsibilities

  • Carry out animal-free studies to demonstrate safety and efficacy for a variety of clients across sectors.
  • Perform routine maintenance of human cell cultures and the XCellR8 lab as needed.
  • Deliver work to a high scientific standard and in compliance with GLP and GDP.
  • Report technical problems, study deviations or errors to the Study Director and colleagues.
  • Process, analyse and communicate results and data from experiments in a timely way.
  • Perform QC checks on reports and compile study files.
  • Support the development of new in vitro tests.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of validated computer systems.
  • Undertake ongoing training to support the role and GLP/GDP requirements.
  • Contribute to the review, update and creation of controlled documents like SOPs and forms.

POST TITLE: Scientist I

SALARY: £25,000 per annum

DESCRIPTION

Scientist I is responsible for supporting the day to day scientific activities of XCellR8’s laboratory. The person in this position will work closely with Senior Scientists, QA and other team members, carrying out in vitro studies to GLP compliance, including the timely completion of all associated documentation.Scientist I carries out some routine maintenance of cell cultures and the XCellR8 lab when needed.Scientist I also supports the setup of new test methods in the laboratory, and performs non-regulatory studies both for clients and R&D projects.Scientist I commits to understanding the science behind all methods used, and contributes to scientific discussion within the team.Through their daily contribution, Scientist I plays an active role in the pursuit of XCellR8’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to 100% animal-free testing.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry out animal-free studies to demonstrate safety and efficacy for a variety of clients working in different industry sectors, including cosmetics, biocides, medical devices, household products, agricultural products and industrial chemicals
  • Perform routine maintenance of human cell cultures and XCellR8 lab when needed
  • Deliver work to a high scientific standard and, where appropriate, in compliance with our Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) accreditation and with respect to Good Documentation Practice (GDP)
  • Report any technical problems, study deviations or errors to the Study Director and other colleagues as appropriate
  • Process, analyse and communicate the results and data from experiments in a timely way
  • Perform QC checks on reports
  • Compile study files
  • Support the development of new in vitro tests
  • Support the implementation of maintenance of validated computer systems
  • Undertake ongoing training in the appropriate theoretical and practical skills to support the role
  • Perform routine lab operational tasks
  • Undertake training in aspects of GLP relevant to the role
  • Contribute to the review, update and creation of controlled documents including SOPs, IPs and Forms
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the science behind all methods used, through reading, web research, internal training and webinars.Share ideas with colleagues. Attend and contribute to internal scientific meetings and – when opportunities arise – external conferences.
  • Integrate fully as a team member of XCellR8 and display flexibility to contribute to other tasks as appropriate
  • Put forward ideas for our constant improvement as an organisation and team
  • Carry out all aspects of the role in line with XCellR8’s values
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate in a Life Science subject.
  • Experience of any of the following is useful, but not essential: cell culture, microbiology, flow cytometry, spectrophotometry, HPLC, in vitro toxicology tests, GxP
  • A commitment to the development and implementation of in vitro replacements for animal testing.
