IMU continues to establish partnerships with leading pharma and biotech companies to advance disease diagnosis, optimise product selection, and improve patient stratification and monitoring - while also building its own pipeline of innovative products.

As a Scientist I at IMU Biosciences, you will be embedded in the wet lab platform team and work closely with other scientists to generate high-quality, reproducible data, providing a new perspective on human immunology. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the next-gen spectral flow and single cell genomics IMU platform.

The Role

We are seeking a Scientist I to join our laboratory platform team and support the generation of high-quality, reproducible immunology data.

This is a hands-on, lab-based role focused on the day-to-day operation of our immune profiling platform, including spectral flow cytometry and single-cell genomics workflows.

You will work closely with a collaborative team of scientists and contribute to both routine assay execution and the ongoing development of platform capabilities.

Due to the nature of the work this role requires working in the lab on a Saturday approximately 1 in every 4 weeks – time off in lieu and overtime pay will be provided. This is organised on a rota basis with other members of the lab team.

Key Responsibilities
Assay Execution & Data Generation
  • Perform immune phenotyping and functional assays, including high-parameter flow cytometry
  • Isolate and process human blood and tissue samples
  • Prepare samples for single-cell sequencing workflows
  • Support data handling, documentation, and storage in line with internal standards
Laboratory Operations & Quality
  • Maintain and adhere to laboratory quality control processes
  • Perform routine instrument QC checks and basic troubleshooting
  • Ensure accurate execution of SOPs and contribute to maintaining high data quality
Collaboration & Delivery
  • Work collaboratively across the lab team to support multiple concurrent projects
  • Communicate progress clearly and proactively, contributing updates, ideas, and feedback
  • Support coordination of sample receipt and logistics with external partners
Laboratory Support
  • Contribute to general lab operations, including reagent preparation, stock management, and equipment upkeep
  • Ensure samples, reagents, and materials are handled, stored, and tracked appropriately
Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to optimisation of workflows and identification of new techniques or technologies to improve efficiency and reproducibility
Essential
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • BSc or MSc in a relevant biological science, with hands-on laboratory experience
  • Strong practical experience in flow cytometry (minimum 15 colour panels)
  • Experience working with human blood and/or tissue samples to isolate immune cells, eg PBMCs
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to data quality and reproducibility
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to troubleshoot experimental challenges
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to accommodate time-sensitive sample workflows when required
Desirable
  • Knowledge of human immunology and immune phenotyping approaches
  • Experience with spectral flow cytometry
  • Exposure to single-cell genomics workflows
  • Experience designing or optimising experiments
  • Familiarity with LIMS/ELN systems
  • Understanding of regulated lab environments (e.g. ISO 15189, ISO 13485)
  • Experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting
Why Join IMU Biosciences?
  • Work on cutting-edge science in immune profiling and precision medicine
  • Be part of a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team
  • Gain exposure to advanced technologies (spectral flow + single cell)
  • Join a fast-growing biotech at an early and impactful stage
