Summary

Overview

The Discovery and Translational Research group at Alnylam is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Scientist in the early target space. This individual will join a multidisciplinary team that identifies, validates, and develops drug candidates from idea to clinic. Responsibilities include identifying and validating novel drug targets across various indications and leading the Lead development process.

This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with Alnylam's human genetics, multi-omics, platform, and clinical teams to identify promising novel targets.
  2. Contribute to target identification efforts based on human genetics, literature, academic collaborations, genomic approaches, etc.
  3. Design and execute proof-of-concept experiments in animal and in vitro disease models.
  4. Design studies, coordinate activities, and lead research from the bench.
  5. Oversee lead discovery activities for selecting drug candidates for further development.
  6. Develop assays to monitor target engagement and pharmacodynamic responses.
  7. Collaborate with multifunctional teams to shepherd drug candidates through lead selection and development to the clinic.
  8. Manage relationships with CROs and academic collaborators, including developing research plans and analyzing data.
  9. Mentor junior scientists.
  10. Communicate results with key stakeholders throughout the organization.
Qualifications
  • PhD in biology or a biomedical sciences-related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience or 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Individuals with expertise in muscle biology, muscle metabolism, or metabolic disease are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with disease biology and mammalian disease models is preferred.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multitask are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork experience, interest in learning new biology, and passion for lab work are important.
