About the Team:Cell is the flagship journal at Cell Press, publishing exciting advances in the biomedical sciences. Cell editors engage with the scientific community to catalyze scientific discovery and discourse. About the Role: We are looking for a full-time Scientific Editor to join our editorial team. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic, mission-oriented, a team-player and love thinking about science broadly, then this could be therolefor you.

Responsibilities:

• Editorially evaluate and make decisions on research papers submitted to the journal

• Work with authors and reviewers to publish exciting science across a range of topic areas

• Engage the scientific community in their labs and at conferences to learn about scientific developments, recruit papers and establish relationships

• Work with the Cell team on editorial processes, decision making and collaborative projects

• Advocate for science, provide thought leadership, and influence the practice and direction of science and scientific communication.

• Build strong relationships with Cell Press journals on content and collaborative projects

• Contribute to broader Cell Press and Elsevier initiatives

Requirements:

• Ph.D. or M.D. with with expertise and experience in genetics and genomics research.

• Broad interests, love of science, and desire to learn. As an editor, you will need to understand the diverse science covered by Cell, and you will need to appreciate the issues and questions that drive different fields.

• A talent for clear communication. Good editors help authors make their message clear, concise, and compelling, so readers know why the science is important and how it will impact their work.

• Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job

• Strong team player and able to work as part of a group of editors committed to the success of Cell and Cell Press at large

• Interest in scientific communication and publishing trends

• Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve.

• Ability to organize, prioritize, and focus.
