Job summary

Syngenta Crop Protection is seeking a Scientific Data Engineer for Product Safety at Jealott's Hill International Research Centre, UK. You will architect scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, lead Databricks integration, and deliver data products that enable regulatory-ready insights.

The role bridges science and data engineering, offering growth in data literacy and mentoring within a regulated field. The ideal candidate has strong Python/SQL skills, Databricks experience on AWS, and a background in life

Qualifications

• Experience with Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Apache Spark) in cloud-based data platforms (AWS)
• Strong programming in Python and SQL with Git and CI/CD workflows
• Solid data modelling knowledge for relational and dimensional data
• Experience with complex datasets and rapid domain onboarding
• Consultative, people-facing approach and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Interest in coaching/training capabilities over time
• Experience with life science data (toxicology, ecotoxicology, chemical data structures)
• Experience delivering data for machine learning model development on external platforms
• Understanding of data architecture principles (data lakehouse, data mesh, data products)
• Familiarity with data quality frameworks and tools (GX, Soda)
• Willingness to challenge status quo and promote new data products

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines transforming scientific datasets into analysis-ready formats aligned with FAIR data principles
• Lead Databricks integration within Product Safety and drive best practices across Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and data governance
• Deliver strategic data product prototypes and collaborate with the Safety and Regulatory Data Domain Lead to production-grade products
• Bridge scientific experts and technical teams, clarifying requirements and ensuring data products are business-relevant and technically sound
• Contribute to data literacy initiatives within Product Safety, with opportunity to develop training and mentoring capabilities
