Job summary

MyNewTerm is seeking a reliable and organised Trainee Science Technician to support the Science Department. You will prepare equipment, materials and demonstrate safe handling procedures for practical lessons.

You will work closely with teaching staff across Key Stages 3–5, maintain laboratory resources, assist with stock checks and health and safety compliance, and help create an engaging learning environment for students.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science required.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competent IT skills, including MS Office.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements in a lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble and clear away equipment, chemicals and materials for science lessons.
• Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical lessons.
• Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment in a safe, clean and organised condition.
• Monitor and manage stock levels, placing orders and keeping inventory records.
• Assist with safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals per regulations.
• Carry out routine maintenance, testing and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and COSHH regulations.
• Support development and preparation of demonstrations and experiments.
• Maintain records relating to equipment, chemicals and safety checks.
• Assist with displays, open evenings and departmental events.
