Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a motivated Science Technician to join the Science Department of a successful, oversubscribed secondary school in Derbyshire. The role supports teaching across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with a strong emphasis on practical science skills and high standards of safety.

Key duties include preparing equipment and materials, setting up and clearing away experiments, maintaining stock and equipment, supporting practical lessons, and ensuring laboratories are safe

Qualifications

• Background in science (academic or practical).
• Organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Good attention to detail and strong health & safety awareness.
• Able to work effectively as part of a team in a busy school.
• Previous science technician experience is desirable, but training will be provided.

The Role

Working closely with teaching staff and the Senior Science Technician, you will be responsible for:

• Preparing equipment, materials and chemicals for practical science lessons
• Setting up and clearing away experiments in accordance with health and safety guidelines
• Maintaining, organising and ordering stock and equipment
• Supporting practical lessons where required
• Ensuring laboratories are safe, clean and compliant with current regulations
• Assisting with risk assessments and safe storage of chemicals

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a background in science (academic or practical)
• Is organised, reliable and able to work independently
• Has good attention to detail and strong health & safety awareness
• Can work effectively as part of a team in a busy school environment
• Previous experience as a Science Technician is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
