Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Junior Research & Innovation Science Technician to anchor our secondary school science labs in Buckinghamshire, near Aylesbury. You will move beyond routine prep, trial new procedures, and mentor students on independent projects.

We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Junior Research & Innovation Science Technician to anchor our bustling secondary school science department. This isn't your average prep-room role. We are shaking up traditional STEM learning, and we need someone energized by prototyping, advanced tech integration, and high-spec laboratory management.

One day you might collaborate with sixth-formers on an advanced biotechnology project or calibrate sensors for an IoT-enabled physics experiment. The next could involve testing chemical concentrations for complex titrations, maintaining 3D printers used in STEM clubs, or spearheading a departmental green-energy audit.

You will be the vital scientific backbone of our labs—balancing rigorous safety standards with an infectious enthusiasm for hands‑on investigation.

About the role

You will take ownership of the technical engine room behind our biology, chemistry, and physics streams. Moving beyond routine prep, you will actively trial new investigative procedures, mentor students during independent projects, and help modernise our practical curriculum.

You will also champion department‑wide safety protocols, manage specialized reagent inventories, and oversee our growing collection of digital data‑logging equipment. Occasional out‑of‑hours support may be required for science fairs, open evenings, or innovation showcases, but these are infrequent and managed via overtime or time off in lieu.

Key responsibilities:

• Engineer, test, and refine apparatus, biological specimens, and chemical solutions for advanced practical lessons and student‑led projects
• Collaborate directly with teaching staff to design and pilot new experimental setups and STEM club initiatives
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot high‑precision laboratory hardware, digital sensors, and analytical instruments
• Oversee comprehensive stock control of chemicals, biological materials, and technical consumables using digital tracking systems
• Uphold stringent health and safety compliance (including COSHH, CLEAPSS guidelines, and risk assessments) across all prep rooms and labs
• Provide hands‑on technical guidance to students during independent investigations and practical assessments
• Champion sustainability initiatives within the department, from chemical waste reduction to recycling protocols
• Keep workspaces state‑of‑the‑art, impeccably organized, and fully prepped for action

About you

You might come from an industrial lab, a university research setting, a technical manufacturing background, or an established educational science department. You see problem‑solving as an art form and have a genuine passion for experimental science.

You will need a strong foundation in laboratory techniques, meticulous attention to detail, and the confidence to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
