Job summary

Aldridge School – A Science College is seeking a Science Technician to support science teaching and practical work in Aldridge. The role provides hands-on laboratory support, set-up for demonstrations, equipment maintenance and safety compliance.

The position is part-time (20 hours per week) with Grade 3 SCP 4-6 pay, pro-rata terms, and is suitable for applicants interested in contributing to a busy science department while maintaining high standards of safety and organisation.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and advice in meeting the needs of the science curriculums
• Prepare materials, stock and standard solutions, specimens and apparatus for demonstrations and practical work
• Set up and test demonstration experiments and ensure they work satisfactorily
• Clean up after lessons and apparatus used by teaching staff and pupils
• Carry out risk assessments for technicians’ activities
• Assist in practical lessons and carry out demonstrations where required
• Report items for repair, equipment and services
• Maintain apparatus and equipment in good working order and carry out repairs within capabilities
• Safely dispose of biological and chemical residues and other waste materials
• Inspect, maintain and correctly use safety equipment
• Operate an efficient system for stocking, storing and distributing all items used in the Science Department
• Operate laboratory documentation systems including the online requisition system for lessons
• Prepare standard solutions, purify chemicals, treat waste
• Maintain a good stock of necessary materials for construction of scientific apparatus
• Be aware of and comply with Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Security, Data Protection policies and report concerns to an appropriate person
